Several of the actors who have portrayed the legendary role of Special Agent 007, more commonly known as James Bond, have gone on to become superstars in their own right. James Bond is perhaps one of the most renowned characters in the history of cinema. Some of the actors that have starred in the series include Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and most recently, Daniel Craig; all of these actors have garnered considerable popularity and success in their own careers outside of the franchise. Daniel Craig is the most recent actor to join this group.

Craig has unquestionably established himself as a well-known figure all over the globe as a direct result of his participation in the most recent five Bond flicks. Even though he has been in a number of other films during his career, the one that has brought him the greatest fame is undoubtedly that of secret agent James Bond. Craig has done a fantastic job of living up to the expectations placed on him to perform in such a prominent profession.

Craig has been quite public about his desire to step down from the post, and as a result, there has been much speculation and a number of publications suggesting that a woman rather than a male may succeed him in the role. This has gained popularity over the last several years, particularly in light of the #MeToo movement, which has brought forward previous women from the series who encountered misogyny while working on set. According to ELLE, individuals who have spoken out include the actress Halle Berry, who appeared in the film “Die Another Day,” as well as the producer Barbara Broccoli.

Even actors who have portrayed James Bond in the past, such as Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, have weighed in on the topic of whether or not they believe a woman should play the famous character of 007 in the future. Both of these actors have different opinions on the subject.

While Roger Moore died away in 2017, Geoffrey Moore, Roger’s son, chimed in with his opinions in March 2023, and he is firmly in the camp that women should not portray the iconic special agent. Geoffrey Moore says that women should not play the legendary special agent.

Craig played James Bond for the fifth time in the film “No Time to Die,” which was the last film in the 007 series and was released in September 2021. It was also Craig’s fifth time playing the character. Even though the actor made it quite apparent that he would not be reprising the role, he felt emotional while discussing the prospect of closing this chapter in his life. Craig shared with GQ the following details of the statement he delivered after shooting his last scene: “I had this entire thing that I wanted to say sort of pieced together in my brain, and I was ready to say it. I couldn’t get it out.”

Understandably, there was a great deal of conjecture over who would succeed him in the post, and Craig did not hold back when it came to sharing his opinions on the matter. During an interview with Radio Times, he said that he does not believe a woman should play the role of James Bond, but he explained that this is mainly because he believes women “deserve their own roles that are just as excellent.” He went on to explain:

Simply said, there should be more opportunities for women and performers of color to shine in leading roles.

His next line of questioning was along the lines of, “Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a role just as excellent as James Bond, but for a woman?” When it comes to choosing the next actor to play James Bond, it is appropriate to inquire about their interest in answering this question.

On the other hand, Brosnan, another fan-favorite actor who has portrayed James Bond, expressed his support for a female 007 in 2019. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s account, he was quoted as saying, “I believe we’ve seen the boys do it for the previous 40 years.”

“Move over, gentlemen, because we’re going to place a lady in that position. I believe that it would be thrilling, that it would be exciting, that it would be exhilarating “he continued.

Today, Geoffrey, the son of Roger, has shared his opinion on the matter, and he is of the opinion that women should not fill the role of James Bond. During an interview with Express that took place in March of 2023, Geoffrey was asked whether a woman could play the part, and he responded as follows:

“If that’s the case, James Bond is no longer involved. It’s possible that she’s 006, 008, or even 009…”

Since Bond is involved, it just wouldn’t be the same. It’s Ian Fleming’s version of Bond. “Unfortunately, it’s a male,” he said further. Geoffrey also made a statement on a point in the most recent film that may have been misunderstood. In this scene, actress Lashana Lynch’s character Nomi was given the 007 code name after Daniel Craig’s version of James Bond departed MI6. Geoffrey thought this could have been a little misleading.

“I believe that this was the source of the uncertainty in the most recent Bond. That she (Nomi) was 007, after which she said, “I have to give it back to Bond.” That is his telephone number.'”

In addition to this, he said, “Maybe there will be a ‘From the producers of James Bond comes Jane or Jemima Bond’ or something.”

In the meanwhile, Lynch shared her thoughts on the matter in an interview with The Guardian that she gave in the year 2021:

When it comes to Bond, either a guy or a woman might play the role. They might be of any race, including white, black, Asian, or mixed. They could be very young or rather ancient. At the end of the day, even if a two-year-old was playing Bond, everyone would still go to the theater to watch what this two-year-old is going to do, no?’

Idris Elba, 50, Tom Hardy, 45, and Henry Cavill, 39, are among the leading candidates to play James Bond in the next film. However, a new frontrunner has emerged — Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 32, who has had a big couple of years in Hollywood, with roles in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Tenet,” and “Bullet Train,” as well as the 2010 superhero film “Kick-Ass.” It has been said that Daisy May Cooper could possibly be considered for the role of M.

For the time being, all we can do is sit tight and watch to see who will be the next person to don the dashing attire of James Bond.
