The disgraced lawyer was found guilty on March 2 of killing his wife Maggie Murdaugh, who was 52 years old at the time, and his son Paul Murdaugh, who was 22 at the time, on July 7, 2021, on the grounds of their expansive hunting lodge in Islandton, South Carolina.

The following day, he was given a life sentence in prison for his crime.

During the sensational, six-week-long double-murder trial, Murdaugh took the stand in his own defense. At the same time, he was facing dozens of charges for alleged financial crimes, including misappropriating money from his law firm, defrauding clients of funds, and computer crimes. The trial was broadcast on national television.

This includes a wrongful death suit that was filed in 2019 by the family of 19-year-old Mallory Beach. Mallory was killed in a boating accident in February of that year, when it is believed that Paul was under the influence of alcohol while driving and crashed into a bridge pylon.
