There is no way for Jenna Ortega to avoid doing the “Wednesday” dance.
The comedy sketch group Please Don’t Destroy makes a proposal to Ortega in a video that is uploaded to the YouTube channel for “Saturday Night Live.” The proposal suggests that they all execute the viral routine together in order to promote the program.
At the beginning of the video, Ortega can be seen reading from a script on the set of “Saturday Night Live,” which she will host on March 11 with 1975 as her musical guest.
“If I’m being completely honest, this is quite beautifully written,” she remarks. “I just don’t feel like I want to do the ‘Wednesday’ dance for promotion because we’ve already seen so much of it, and I believe it’s time to try something different,” she said. “I just don’t feel like I want to do the ‘Wednesday’ dance.”
The camera then pans to see Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall dressed from head to toe in the character’s recognizable goth garb. Each actor is wearing black boots, a frilly dress, and dramatic red lip makeup.
Herlihy makes a feeble effort to play down his joy by saying, “We didn’t want to perform the dance either, so.” but the truth is that he is quite excited.
“Well Fine, I just didn’t know since you’re all dressed precisely like Wednesday,” Ortega explains to the group after seeing their similarities in attire.
The group of people answers by acting as if they are unfamiliar with the popular program that can be seen on Netflix “Wednesday.
“Taking part in the dance with Ortega “would not be a wish come true, “Marshall argues.
Higgins continues by saying, “I hardly know it,” while simultaneously demonstrating the dance motions with his hands.
But, she soon gives in and climbs the stage with Marshall and Higgins, who are positioned on each side of her. The three people start doing the well-known dance while Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” plays in the background. Ortega channels her role as she grudgingly completes the exercise, and she does it without so much as a grin crosses her face.
Herlihy, who was filming backstage while still in character as Wednesday, can be heard saying, “Great, I believe we’ve got it folks.”
When the video comes to a close, Ortega is left bewildered and exclaims, “Wait, you put all that gear on just to tape it?”
In the previous year, Ortega disclosed the information that she did not collaborate with a choreographer on the renowned dance when appearing on “The Tonight Show.” Instead, she was responsible for improvising her dance routines, and director Tim Burton depended on her to do so.
A few days before the filming, Burton went up to Ortega in her trailer and spoke to her about the dance while offering her words of encouragement.
Ortega claims that the man addressed her as follows: “Hi Jenna, I know you stated you wanted to choreograph this yourself since I declined to see a choreographer… I’m not even going to worry about it because I know you’ve got it and you’ve been working on it. I have complete faith in you.
Yet, Ortega had not even come close to finishing the dance. Hence, she occupied herself for the next two days by viewing videos of goth youngsters dancing in clubs throughout the 1980s.
She said, “I do not have any prior expertise in that profession” (dancing). “I went two days without getting any sleep.”
