Despite his current wealth of several millions of dollars, actor Mark Wahlberg comes from less privileged roots. During an interview in 2011, he was quite frank about his difficult upbringing and difficult family life.
The Hollywood celebrity had just ended his relationship with his girlfriend at the time, the actress Jordana Brewster, who was a student at Yale University at the time. She hailed from a wealthy family, thus the two of them had quite different upbringings, to begin with.
Wahlberg said that he had a difficult time connecting to her luxurious lifestyle since she lived “on Fifth Avenue” and had “housekeepers,” but his life was nothing special in comparison to hers.
Having said that, he thought that it was preferable for him to be a part of a life that he understood when he was growing up, not only because it allowed him to “survive anything,” but also because it gave him stability. He was one of six siblings who all slept in the same room during Wahlberg’s childhood in Boston, where his family struggled to make ends meet.
It turned out that he came from a large family with a total of twelve siblings, but he had always thought that there were only nine of them. “As I turned my attention to my religion, great things began taking place in my life. And I’m not talking about it on a professional level – that’s not the point at all. […] It would be absurd for me to sit here and make a request for material goods. There is much more going on here than meets the eye.”
Further explaining his intentions, Wahlberg said that he wanted to serve God, set a good example for others, correct the mistakes he had made in the past, and apologize to people he had wronged. “That is what I’m praying for, and I encourage anybody and everyone to do the same.”
The successful entrepreneur has been married to his wife of 13 years, Rhea Durham, whom he wed in 2009, and they are now living a happy married life. When asked how he had met the woman he loved in August of 2010, Wahlberg said that they had met by chance in New York City when he was there promoting a movie.
He asked her if she would be willing to go to church with him the next day, and she once again replied yes, Wahlberg recounted. He gave her the opportunity to join him, and the model accepted the offer.

According to Wahlberg, the couple left the Hollywood lifestyle behind in order to begin a new chapter in the country, mostly for the sake of their children. He went on to say that possibilities exist for people on that side of the nation, and he is enthusiastic about what the future has in store for them.
A Las Vegas Villa in the resort community known as the Summit Club was acquired by the father of four in the year 2022. It is said that he paid $15.6 million for a plot of land of 2.5 acres so that he could construct a luxurious residence in the area.
In addition, Wahlberg made the decision to acquire a bungalow that was already constructed on the same piece of land in the Summerlin enclave and paid $14.5 million for it.
The property has a total living space of 7,327 square feet, with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two and a half bathrooms, in addition to a garage that is almost 1,300 square feet in size.
The multi-talented and award-winning actor purchased the land from the Discovery Land Company in partnership with the Howard Hughes Corporation.
Alicia Taylor, a real estate broker working for Clear Sky Realty in Las Vegas, said that she had a conversation with Wahlberg through Zoom in November 2020 about the actor’s desire to purchase a modern property in Sin City that was located in a secure neighborhood.
Taylor said that she had recommended the Summit Club to the Hollywood celebrity because of its cutting-edge security system, which is the only one of its type in all of Las Vegas and uses body heat monitoring to identify trespassers on the property.
Taylor divulged the information that Wahlberg first showed hesitation over the length of time that would be required to wait for the building to be finished. Having said that, he did have a big budget for a mansion that ranged from $30 million to $35 million.
She noted that the attentive dad was thinking about his children while mulling over whether or not to make an offer. He “stated he was searching for someplace with at least five bedrooms since he had four kids,” she claimed.
“Where her family resides, and he was trying to get her to go to Vegas,” said Taylor. In the meanwhile, his wife, Durham, was attempting to convince him to go to her hometown in Florida instead of going to Vegas.
She gave Wahlberg information about other homes in the neighborhood and advised that he buy land to construct a bespoke home on. Later on, he followed her first recommendation and purchased a block of land there.
At first, Mark Wahlberg expressed an interest in purchasing not one, but two properties located on Summerlin’s Billionaires Row. The first residence belonged to casino magnate Steve Wynn, and it was sold for $17.5 million. The second property belonged to singer Celine Dion.
Taylor said that she did not yet know the reason for Wahlberg’s desire to move to Las Vegas or if the move had anything to do with Wahlberg’s tax situation. He did inform her of his intention to put his mansion in Los Angeles up for sale, which he ultimately did in 2022 with an asking price of $87.5 million.
