We like cats not just because they are adorable, fantastic, and perfect, but also because they are self-sufficient little explorers that enjoy going on adventures of their own own. This is one of the reasons why we love cats so much. On the other hand, this might cause issues for the owners of the animals, who may get anxious and sick at home since they are unsure of when their furry buddy will return.
For this reason, animal rights advocates have long encouraged people to implant microchips in their dogs; this way, there is a far better possibility of being reunited with your cherished buddy in the event that it becomes separated from its owner.
Recently, a tale of a gorgeous orange boy called Cat became popular on the internet. Cat, the adorable kitty in question, went missing and didn’t return home for a period of fifteen consecutive months. As his owners Mindy and Luke Criner were just about to give up hope, Cat suddenly re-appeared in their life, purring and meowing for them to pay attention to him…
The cat was initially quite timid when it was brought home from the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter in Virginia, where it had been adopted from. Since he wasn’t all that interested in playing with the other kittens, his prospective owners came to the conclusion that he needed a warm and nurturing environment in order to develop his self-assurance.
In June of 2015, we were given a cat that we called Cat; he would be around six years old at this point in time. The Peninsula Area Animal Shelter’s pet motel had never seen a more retiring little cat than he did.
Since he was so restless, they needed to put him in their “horse shelter cat” program. But, he had that look in his eyes like the kitten from Shrek as he saw various cats play wistfully, and I knew at that time that he was meant for our family. You were able to see quite clearly that all he needed was love…
It was successful, he had a direct connection to my partner, Luke, but one day we woke up and he was just resting on my chest mumbling, and there was the beginning of my companion cat,” Mindy told olly. “It accomplished take work, he had a direct link to my better half, Luke.”
It turns out that Cat needed attention in order to feel secure enough to start roaming about his yard and exploring the new area. Soon after, he gained the confidence he needed to start doing so. Regrettably, there was once a time when Cat did not return from his endeavors.
“He vanished around the beginning of May, he would go out for a small time during the day if it was nice and came home when summoned for lunch or dinner and sound off with a noisy whine to alert you he was coming. He would go out for a limited period during the day if it was decent.
I put a new collar on him that had just arrived at the house from the post office, and then I let him out to play in the tree in the front yard as he normally does. However, when he stopped and looked at me, I had this strange feeling that it would be the last time I saw him, so I called my spouse and told him about it.
We had anticipated that it would be a day like any other, but our expectations were not met. He did not come back to the house for dinner and did not respond when he was called. “Before morning I was in complete and utter hysteria,” Mindy divulged to us…
His owners were absolutely frantic with worry and were beginning to give up hope.
The Criner family wasted no time in posting a message on the Facebook page for Lost & Found Pets in Hampton Roads, Virginia to alert others about the disappearance of their furry companion.
They even placed Cat’s litter box and food outdoors in the hope that the scent would lure him back inside, but their efforts were fruitless in this endeavor. The fact that the Criners spread posters and miniature housing stations across the area and had their buddies constantly check these locations did not help matters either.
The family was beginning to feel as if there was no hope.
I sent a post with information on all of the cats to Gina, who is an absolute gem of a lady who manages the Lost and Found Pets of Hampton Roads Facebook page completely out of the goodness of her heart. She shared the article right away, which caused others to start searching for the cats.
We followed all of the advice that she provides on the page, set up this litter box and food station so that he could smell his way home, and set up little lodging stations a couple of squares and about a mile from home with his pet house, food, and something that resembled us. He eventually found his way home.
We hung banners throughout the neighborhood, as well as at the offices of local veterinarians, grocery stores, and covers. Not a single Cat-related revelation. After a few extended periods of time during which I would go about every day contacting and supplicating creature control or the institution, I started to lose confidence in both of them.
After receiving a message from animal control one day, they were surprised.
Mindy and Luke would go for a stroll around their neighborhood every single night in the hopes of locating Cat, but they were never successful.
The days moved into weeks, then months, and then even more time passed, and with each passing day, the fissures in my shattered heart became somewhat larger. Finally, on Halloween, 536 days after he had been reported missing, I received a voicemail from Animal Control and an email from the firm that makes the microchips announcing that he had been recovered!…
It turned out that a guy had been looking for Cat for the whole year. “I honestly could not believe what I was reading at the time. I couldn’t help but think there was a typo. The voicemail left by AC instructed listeners to make contact with the Peninsula Area Animal Shelter in order to locate him.
I was already fighting back tears as I went through the entrance of the shelter, even though the law limited how quickly I could get there. They took me into each and every room, but there was no sign of Cat anywhere.
When Cat was struck by a car on Halloween night, the wonderful woman who worked there went right on the phone and phoned AC as well as everybody else she could think of in order to learn that a guy had called AC. She found out that the man had called AC.
When AC showed up, the man in his 60s said that he had been taking care of what he thought was a female cat for at least a YEAR when Cat was hit. Rather than taking Cat to a vet, he considered AC and detailed the “stray” he’d been taking care of for a year was hit and expected to go. He said that he had been taking care of Cat for at least a YEAR when Cat was hit.
He was instantly filtered out by the air conditioning, and immediately after that, my statistics jumped up. The upstanding individual was unaware of the existence of computer chips. He took care of Cat at his house until he could get in touch with me. That evening, I called upon right, and he came to me,” Mindy said to olly.
“The gathering was really wonderful. He was just 2.9 kilometers away, or 2 squares, from the leisure facility that we bring his young human to between thrice and four times every week. As he looked over at me while he was sitting on the patio eating out of his bowl, I called him name and made him my own special cat sound. He came over and inspected.
He yowled right back at me, as he normally did, and took another mouthful of food from the dish before making his way over to me as I came closer. I sat down on the instrument and motioned for him to come to me if he felt threatened; instead, he climbed straight up onto my lap and said something.
I started walking towards the vehicle where Cat was, and she overheard my boyfriend, Luke, speaking with the person who had been taking care of him. When Cat realized that we were going home, she murmured louder than I ever thought possible and gave me that first excessively long head bob. Luke has an incredibly unique voice, and when Cat overheard Luke speaking with the person who had been taking care of him, she realized that we were going home.
That was similar to the head boop that moved a small bit of my broken heart spirit up into position. My better half captured the perfect snapshot of the exact moment he learned he was going to be going home with his family…
As Mindy arrived to the man’s home, she was greeted by Cat, who began purring the moment she laid eyes on her.
“When we arrived home, he walked directly up to “his” bathroom where we keep the plants throughout the winter so it’s a little jungle and flopped right down in his usual old location. When we left, he went straight back to “his” bathroom. My heart was both broken and melted all at the same time. Olly learned from Mindy that his canine siblings came up to meet him, and that each of them had their own “welcome home head boop” moment when they saw him.
“I hope that our story will give others who are grieving the loss of their pets hope, and maybe those who have unknowingly taken in someone else’s pet will check to see if they’re scanned so that pet can have their happy reunion with their family, and someone else can experience the overwhelming joy that we’re experiencing,” she continued.
