On January 22, 2023, Elvis Presley’s only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, who he had with his wife Priscilla Presley, was put to rest at Graceland. It was a sorrowful day for the Presley family and admirers of the “King of Rock and Roll,” Elvis Presley, who saw the event. Those who were closest to Lisa Marie Presley were there to say their last goodbyes, reflect on the experiences they had with her, and pay honor to the life she led. However, her mother’s message managed to move hearts more than any other. Priscilla shared a poem with the group, which, in her words, “spoke it all.”
At the time of her birth on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, Lisa Marie was already considered one of the most famous offspring of celebrities. On the other hand, she died away on January 12, 2023, at the age of 54, after being brought to the emergency hospital at her California home after being discovered unconscious by her family members.
Lisa Marie was born precisely nine months after her parents were famously married in a quick ceremony in their room at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. Elvis Presley resided at his home, Graceland, until the day he passed away in 1977.
Because she was Elvis’s only daughter, her four children were the only grandkids he ever had. She was the only child he ever had. During her marriage to ex-husband Danny Keough, Lisa Marie gave birth to actress Riley Keough and her late son Benjamin Keough. During her marriage to ex-husband Michael Lockwood, Lisa Marie gave birth to twins Harper and Finley Lockwood. In addition, she is known for her marriages to renowned musicians Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage.
Lisa Marie has released a few albums, following in the footsteps of her musician father, who also had a successful career in the music industry. Her life, like that of her father before her, was marred by a number of unfortunate events. The loss of her son Benjamin in the year 2020 was one of the events that broke her heart the most.
It was stated that Benjamin had gone away on July 14, 2020, when he was 27 years old. It was determined that he had committed himself since he was discovered dead with a gunshot wound in the upper torso area. According to a statement, Lisa Marie is “beyond distraught” and “totally heartbroken” after the loss of Benjamin.
Years later, his loss continued to torment the doting mother, who composed a touching article in celebration of National Grief Awareness Day to be published by People on August 30, 2022. The essay was written in response to National Grief Awareness Day.
“Whether we like it or not, death is a natural part of life, and so is the process of mourning after it.” There is a great deal more information and insight to gain on the topic, but the following is what I am currently aware of: One is that the feelings of sadness do not end or go away in any manner, even a year or more after the death of a loved one. In spite of what some people or our society would have us think or believe we should believe, grief is something that will follow you around for the rest of your life and you will have no choice but to take it with you. “There is no such thing as ‘getting over it’ or’moving on.'” this is what she wrote.
Priscilla’s eulogy during the burial for her daughter, which took place at Graceland on January 22, 2023, was an embodiment of the anguish that she felt. Before explaining that she would read aloud lines that her granddaughter and Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley, had written, she started by remarking that she was “blown away by how many people” were there.
“I am at a loss for words when it comes to describing my mum. In point of fact, there are far too many. Mama was my icon, my role model, and my superhero in more ways than one. Lisa Marie Presley was an icon, a role model, and a superhero to many people all over the globe, but Mama was my idol, my role model, and my superhero. Priscilla read. “‘Even now, I can’t get over all there is to understand or know about her, but as she always said, I’ll try my best.'” “‘I can’t get across everything there is to be understood or known about her.'”
The next thing that happened was that Priscilla started reading a poem called “Old Soul” that was written by Riley about her mother.
“‘In 1968, she came into our world. She was born exhausted and weak, but she was powerful. She had a fragile appearance, yet she radiated vitality. She had no reason to doubt that her time in this place would be brief “said Priscilla. “‘ After her childhood was over, with a twinkle in her green eye, she started her own family and raised her children. When her second kid arrived, she was left with the question: “Could this be the guardian angel who leads me to my true home?”
“‘Time, of course, went by quite quickly. It was high time for a catastrophe. She was aware that the finish line was drawing near. Some people believe that she died of survivor’s guilt, but the truth is that she passed away from a shattered heart. ‘Even though she is safe and sound at the place where she has always belonged, my heart still longs for her love,’ she said.
“‘She was aware of the fact that I adored her. I am afraid that I will never be able to touch her,'” Priscilla read while it seemed like she was making a valiant effort to suppress the tears. “But the part of me that is old is always here. “She doesn’t float above,” you say.
Priscilla concluded her eulogy by saying, “That says it all, and thank you everybody for being here…,” before she left the funeral. Our heart is shattered. “Lisa, you have everyone’s affection,”
Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee was chosen to be the last resting place for Lisa Marie, and she was put to rest next to her son Benjamin there. In addition to being the ultimate resting place of Elvis, his parents Vernon and Gladys, and his grandmother Minnie Mae, who was buried there following her demise in 1980, the Meditation Garden at Graceland is also the final resting place of Elvis.
Jerry Schilling, a close friend of Elvis’, was one among the many people who spoke during the memorial ceremony. Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, was another speaker. Alanis Morissette, a Canadian singer and songwriter, presented an inspiring performance of her song “Rest,” which she had composed in favor of raising awareness of mental health issues. In addition, “November Rain” was sung by Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose.
