Liam Neeson, an Irish actor, has established a significant reputation for himself in the film industry in Hollywood. The actor has established himself as a leading figure in the film business with leading parts in a number of successful films, including “Schindler’s List” and the “Taken” action picture series. Over the course of his career, he has been considered for a number of prizes, including the Academy Award, the British Academy Film Award, two Tony Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards, among others. In the year 2020, he was even ranked number seven on the list of Ireland’s 50 best cinema performers that was compiled by The Irish Times.
But while having a great profession, Liam has also endured a significant amount of adversity and difficulty throughout his life. The loss of his wife, Natasha Richardson, has been the challenge in Liam’s life that he has had to overcome the most. This is the most significant obstacle that Liam has faced.
They first crossed paths in 1993 when they were both cast in a Broadway production of the play “Anna Christie.” Together, they had a glittering performing career. Natasha was going through a divorce with her husband, the producer Robert Fox, at the time, although the pair was still legally married.
Later on in that year, they started dating, and by the following year, they were married. They shared the joy of parenthood by welcoming boys Micheál Richardson and Daniel Neeson into the world. For sixteen lovely years, they lived together as a loving family, until in 2009, disaster befell them all. Natasha suffered a brain damage after falling and hitting her head on a ski trip she had with one of her boys, which eventually led to her dying.
Since then, Liam has discussed how he and his boys came to terms with the tragedy, as well as the significant role that his mother-in-law, who was also a renowned actress in her own right, played in providing emotional and financial support to the family.
When Natasha fell and banged her head while skiing in Quebec, Canada, in March of 2009, they were on a vacation together with Natasha’s eldest son. She chose not to seek medical assistance after the incident, which occurred while she was not wearing a helmet, and instead continued on with her day.
But Natasha was brought to the hospital three hours after the incident took place. Liam, who was at the time based in Toronto, wasted no time in making the trip out to visit her. When he arrived, he found out that his wife was being kept alive by a machine. He said that he had expressed his affection for his wife, even though he was unsure whether or not she was able to hear him. He also said that he and his wife had agreed, in the event that one of them fell into a coma, the other would decide whether or not to “pull the plug” on life support. He said to CBS:
“So then, when I met her and saw all these tubes and whatnot, it was the first thing that came to my mind. Was, “All right, these tubes have to be removed.” She has disappeared.'”
Liam has not been shy about expressing how much he pines for the days when he was married to his late wife. He said that there are times when he waits for her to enter through the entrance of their house as if nothing had ever occurred to change his expectations.
“It was just in your mind. It’s still not really like that,” he remarked.
When their mother passed away, Liam’s two kids were barely 12 and 13 years old, and he needed to be strong for them. In an interview that he gave to CBS in 2014, Liam discussed the extent to which Natasha was known for her compassionate nature. He said:
“She was concerned about everyone. She naturally takes on a maternal role. And she would cook supper for us all, and she was always looking out for us all.”
Natasha’s mother, the actress Vanessa Redgrave, stepped in to help Liam raise her grandchildren when her own daughter was killed in a sad accident, and it’s possible that Natasha inherited her mothering instincts from her mother.
Redgrave was the one who walked her daughter down the aisle at Natasha and Liam’s wedding back in the day since Natasha’s father had gone away before the ceremony. She also became a shoulder for Liam and the children to cry on and someone they could depend on when Natasha passed away. At Natasha’s burial, when Liam was serving as a pallbearer in place of Redgrave, witnesses reported seeing the two of them providing comfort to one another. After some time had passed, Liam revealed to the Independent that Redgrave’s backing was one of the primary factors in his ability to continue his profession.
“I have a wonderful support system, and if I’m away on a project, my mother-in-law moves in,” he added. “If I’m gone on a project, my mother-in-law moves in.” He went on to say that Redgrave would always be prepared to provide a helping hand to anybody who needed it.
Redgrave was also affected by the prolonged anguish that Liam experienced following Natasha’s dying. In 2019, she explained to People:

“Time does not cure; if it did, it would imply that all of a sudden everything is well, which is not the case. It will never be acceptable.
Actress Joely Richardson, Redgrave’s second daughter, commented on her mother’s uniqueness in the same interview, saying, “You are unusual. You aren’t stronger or weaker. Just different – altered. We have successfully reassembled into a stable, loving unit by recognizing and supporting one another, which is one of the things that we have done well as a family.
In a message that Joely made on social media in honor of her mother on the occasion of her 86th birthday on January 30, 2023, Joely discussed exactly how solid their family relationship was. There was a shot of Redgrave smiling when she sat outside with her pets, and there were also other retro images included in the collection.
On January 24, 2023, Joely shared photographs of her sister that were part of an auction that was being held to generate money for a charity that helps women. She penned the following in the photo’s caption: “Tasha claimed she felt protected in her husband’s embrace…. T’s last picture as a professional artist — he has never looked more stunning, and in fact, he is as calm and content as an Angel.
