It is one of the finest cinematic bromances we have seen in years, despite the poor box office performance of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal hit it off in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, both in front of and behind the cameras.

At the D23 Expo in September in Anaheim, we asked Pascal whether he was already attempting to bring Cage into the Star Wars world, especially into the actor’s enormously popular series on Disney+ called The Mandalorian.

Pascal was clean with us and revealed that he had previously proposed the idea. There’s a chance that Cage is really a Mando. The only thing left for him and executive producer Rick Famuyiwa to do is figure out whether or not he will be one of the helmeted (perhaps making a stealth Stormtrooper-Esque appearance a la Daniel Craig) or be seen in the flesh.

However, if we are to believe Cage, Pascal will need to put that bunny back in its box.

In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment to promote his upcoming Western The Old Way, Cage gives an honest response by stating, “I’m not really down.”

“I’m a Trekkie, dude. I’m now aboard the Enterprise from Star Trek. That’s where I like to hang out.”

Cage claims that his passion for all things Star Trek stretches back to his boyhood, and he has kept up with the most recent films featuring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and the rest of the cast.

“I spent much of my childhood watching William Shatner. In the movies, I felt Pine did an outstanding job. My opinion is that the movies are remarkable. The political and social [messages] are very interesting to me. In my opinion, the reason why science fiction is such an essential genre is that it gives its authors the freedom to express themselves in whatever way they see fit and to discuss any topic they want. You can truly express your beliefs like Orwell or whomever else you want to in the science fiction genre because you place it on a different planet, you put it in a different period or in the future, and no one will jump all over you because they think it’s science fiction. And Star Trek did a fantastic job of embracing it.”

Cage apologizes to Mr. Pascal but insists, “It’s a reality” in relation to his passion for Star Trek.

“I was never a member of the Star Wars family. I come from a long line of Star Trek fans.
