Amal Clooney, who is married to George Clooney, was attending the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in Washington, D.C. over the weekend. As they were walking the red carpet, George, who is 61 years old, helped his wife avoid a potential wardrobe malfunction.

Amal, 44, looked stunning in a red Valentino gown, which she accessorized with a matching handbag and cape. However, the cape and clutch got tangled up on the carpet at one point while photographers were taking shots of Amal.

George, who was wearing a black tuxedo at the time, was seen helping his wife of eight years, with whom he had twins Ella and Alexander, age 5, untangle her lengthy accessory piece before the two of them posing for photos together.

On Saturday, George was recognized at the Kennedy Center Honors for all of his accomplishments throughout his life.

Amy Grant, Gladys Knight, Tania León, and the band U2, which is comprised of band members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr., were some of the other notable people who were recognized during the yearly celebration.

According to ABC News, George stated that he “could never have envisioned that someday I’d be the one sitting in the balcony at the Kennedy Center Honors.” George grew up in a small city in Kentucky. “I could never have imagined that someday I’d be the one sitting on the balcony at the Kennedy Center Honors.”

“It is a tremendous pleasure to even be included in the same sentence as the rest of these outstanding talents. This comes as a really surprising and wonderful development for the entire Clooney family “the actor, whose parents Nick and Nina were also there to show their support for their son, added. Nick and Nina were also in attendance.

At the very first Albie Awards, which were held in New York City in September and were hosted by the Clooney Foundation for Justice, Oscar-winning actor and director George Clooney and his human rights attorney wife Amal Clooney was in attendance.

Outside of the New York Public Library, George discussed with PEOPLE the aspect of putting on the event that he enjoyed the most: collaborating with Amal. “To put it simply, we work together on everything. We worked together to conceive twins! “he stated. “But you know, this is an exciting one because Amal’s gotten journalists out of Egypt, out of Azerbaijan, prisons, out of — all over the world, Myanmar,” he said. “This is a case in which Amal is involved.”

Those who have devoted their lives to the pursuit of justice were honored with Albie Awards. A number of famous people, such as Meryl Streep, Dua Lipa, John Oliver, Julia Roberts, Bruce Springsteen, and Patti Scialfa, were in attendance at the event.

The ceremony that takes place at the Kennedy Center Honors will be broadcast on CBS on December 28.
