This week, The Weeknd served out an extra helping of his new music for everyone with the release of his second single, “Blinding Lights,” on the holiday of Thanksgiving. The lyrics of “Heartless” examined how The Weeknd reverted to his old playboy ways after his breakup with Selena Gomez. “Blinding Lights,” on the other hand, seems to address how quickly he got over playing the field after the reappearance of his on-off girlfriend Bella Hadid.
The Weeknd dropped a few hints about the “Heartless” that Hadid had just returned: “I lost my heart and my mind / I try to always do right / I thought I lost you this time / You just came back in my life / You never gave up on me (Why don’t you?) / I lost my heart and my mind / I try to always do right / I thought I lost you this time / You just came back in my life / I lost my heart and my mind / I try Why won’t you tell me what you see? I’ll never know. / I struggle to function well when I’m by myself (Oh yeah) / The tone in which I say it is quite evident to you.”
The song “Blinding Lights” expands on both that and his affection for the woman who has been there for him no matter what.
Since April 2015, The Weeknd and Hadid have been involved in a romantic relationship that has been on and off. The Weeknd dated Gomez from January 2017 until October 2017, and then he and Hadid started hanging out again in November 2017. The couple had previously broken up in November 2016, and The Weeknd dated Gomez from January 2017 until October 2017. In the summer of 2018, they resumed their status as a married couple after a brief separation.
In August 2019, it was rumored that they had broken up again but that they will remain amicable. Various sources have made hints that there is a potential for them to get back together.
Although The Weeknd was spotted spending time with Hadid for the first time in November 2017, shortly after his breakup with Gomez, the two were not seen spending time together again until Coachella in April of the following year. There, it was rumored that they were “kissing all night” during a party for a music festival, but Hadid denied that it happened.

News was informed at the time by a source that “Bella never quite let go of her feelings for Abel (Tesfaye, the true name of The Weeknd), and she always held out hope that they would one day be together again. They have been seeing one other in private recently, although their relationship is not yet official. ” While Hadid “wants to be exclusive, ” The Weeknd is “playing the field” and “openly dating” other women.”
They were spotted together once more in May of 2018 at a party held in conjunction with the Cannes Film Festival. At that gathering, they were caught on camera making out with one another. By July 2018, they had formally reconciled and were once again an exclusive couple.
Because Hadid is a model and resides in New York City, she is required to travel rather frequently for work. Because of this, a significant portion of their relationship (and their contact during their periods of free time) was conducted over long distances. However, during their most recent relationship, things progressed to a more serious level. She and The Weeknd eventually moved in together in October 2018, before deciding to end their relationship this summer. It was speculated that the physical distance between them had a significant role in the most recent breakup. In the month of August, a source disclosed to E!, “Both mentally and physically, they are in two completely different places right now. While Bella is getting ready for her responsibilities during fashion week, Abel is focusing on his music and preparing to make his acting debut.”
E! stated that The Weeknd called Hadid on her birthday in October 2019 to wish her a happy birthday and ultimately met up with her in New York City. The birthday celebration took place in October 2019. According to a source who spoke to the publication, “The Weeknd did call out to Bella throughout the day to wish her a “Happy Birthday,” and they have remained in contact.” The two individuals have never had a contentious relationship with one another, and they are currently getting along swimmingly. Although there is now no possibility of them getting back together, Bella has made it clear that she does not wish to harbor any animosity or hatred toward anyone.
