On Sunday, it was reported that Miss Argentina Mariana Varela and Miss Puerto Rico Fabiola Valentin are now husband and wife.

According to Univision, the then-contestants became acquainted during their time spent competing at the 2020 Miss Grand International pageant. This event served as the setting for their “meet-cute.” Because of the pandemic, the pageant originally scheduled for 2020 will instead take place in March 2021.

In addition, Varela competed in the 2019 Miss Universe pageant, where she wowed the judges with her standout getup for the national costume competition.

Both Varela and Valentin revealed in their Instagram bios that they had finished in the top 10 of the 2020 Grand Miss International pageant. Despite the fact that they did not return home with trophies, it appears that both of them did find the love of their lives during their time competing.

In the months that followed their first encounter at the pageant, both Varela and Valentin posted images with each other on Instagram. However, they did not disclose that they were dating, opting instead to keep their romantic relationship a secret.

Varela referred to Valentin as her “beautiful friend” in a birthday post that she wrote for Valentin in September 2021. The message was for Valentin.

Sunday saw the newlyweds make the happy announcement that they are now husband and wife on Instagram, where they also verified their relationship.

They captioned the image, which included a video montage of significant milestones in their relationship, “After deciding to keep our romance private, we opened the doors to them on a special day.”

The film includes clips of them getting engaged and getting married, and it looked like both events took place in Puerto Rico.

The winner of the 2020 Miss Grand International pageant, Abena Akuaba, who was representing Ghana in the competition, was one of the contestants who congratulated the happy couple in the comments section of their Instagram account. Other competitors that competed alongside Varela and Valentin include:

Akuaba congratulated MGI on their role in bringing about a “wonderful union” in a text message.

Varela and Valentín did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
