A three-year prison term has been handed down to former National Football League coach Britt Reid.
According to The New York Times, on Tuesday, Reid was given the sentence after being found guilty of one felony count of driving while drunk and inflicting serious bodily damage. The verdict against Reid found him guilty of the offense.
The accident on the highway occurred on February 4, 2021, and resulted in injuries to five people, including Ariel Miller, who was five years old at the time.
According to a report by a local network, Reid was taken into custody right away. Reid is the son of Andy Reid, who serves as the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.
As part of a plea that he signed in September, the former coach, who is now 37 years old, will serve no more than four years in prison. A trial and a possible maximum sentence of seven years in jail awaited him prior to the acceptance of the plea deal.
The attorney for the Miller family, Tom Porto, released the following statement: “The victims of this crime are outraged the Defendant was not sentenced to the maximum sentence allowable by law. No amount of prison time will ever be enough to punish the Defendant for the pain and suffering he caused this family and the ongoing difficulties that Ariel will continue to endure for the rest of her life. She will endure. She will strive and she will thrive. She is Ariel strong.”
Porto continues by saying, “The family is pleased this situation is resolved” in an additional statement.
According to ABC News, Ariel’s family also showed up in court on Tuesday, and her mother delivered a victim’s statement to Reid. The statement was related to Ariel’s assault.

She also stated that she does not accept any future apologies from Reid for the accident. In addition, she stated that the victims are “offended” because he even requested probation for himself.

He deeply apologizes and takes full responsibility for his actions, and he wishes and prays that A.Y. will continue to make progress in his recovery.”
In September, Reid made an appearance in a court in Missouri to plead guilty to driving while intoxicated as a result of the accident that occurred on February 4, 2021. When Reid was traveling near GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, he crashed into two vehicles that were stopped along the side of the highway. Reid was driving his pickup truck at the time of the collision.
Ariel was one of two children who were injured in the incident and were seated in the back of a wrecked silver Chevrolet Traverse. The other child who was injured was her friend. The second youngster, who was only 4 years old at the time, sustained injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
Ariel was placed in a coma for a period of eleven days after the accident, which also caused Reid to sustain injuries. Relatives had indicated in the past that she had a challenging journey ahead of her in terms of her recovery.
According to police statements made at the time of the accident, Reid, who was the linebackers and outside linebackers coach for the Chiefs at the time of the collision, acknowledged drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
ESPN stated at the time that Reid was given a sentence ranging from eight to twenty-three months in jail for a road rage incident that occurred in Pennsylvania in 2007. During the incident, Reid displayed a weapon at another car. He was released on parole into a rehabilitation program.
After crashing his vehicle into a shopping cart in the parking lot of a sports goods store the previous year, he entered a guilty plea to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
According to KMBC, during the hearing that took place in September, Reid stated, “I regret what I did.” “I made a terrible mistake. Please accept my sincere apologies. I apologize to anyone I may have offended.”
