Ariana Grande and her former co-star in Victorious, Elizabeth Gillies, reenacted many sequences from the classic comedy Best of Show on October 28. Coolidge played as trophy wife Sherri Ann Cabot in the film. Grande posted multiple videos of the reenactment on her Instagram account. The shot-for-shot recreations are spot-on in every detail, from the costumes and set design to the perfectly timed comedy moments.
In case you had forgotten, Ariana Grande is not only a musical genius, but she is also exceptionally good at imitation, nailing Coolidge in addition to characters performed by Eugene Levy and Linda Kash. In case you had forgotten, Grande is also a great musician. She did, of course, require some assistance from prosthetics.
“I hope you have a scary-good Halloween. This was back in May when we shot it,” Grande captioned the photo.
Gillies, who is just as talented as an impressionist, gave performances that were spot-on imitations of the characters that were played by Jane Lynch, Catherine O’Hara, and Larry Miller.
The comment thread was full of acclaim that was well-deserved for the performance, including suggestions for a remake of Best in Show in which Grande and Gillies play all of the roles. (The request to recast the scene came from me.)
It is still not obvious why the two stars constructed such an elaborate recreation of the movie that was released in the year 2000, especially considering that it was filmed about six months ago. Could it have been a project that was abandoned?
Although Coolidge has not commented on Ariana Grande’s breathy impersonation just yet, it is likely that he will do so in the very near future. To refresh your memory, the two worked together in 2019 on the music video for Ariana Grande’s single “Thank U, Next,” in which Coolidge reprised her character from the movie Legally Blonde as the manicurist Paulette.
