Carrie Underwood and Darius Rucker, two other prominent figures in the country music scene, were on the evening as well. There is no lack of cover songs featuring Elvis Presley, but country music artist Blake Shelton nailed it with his rendition of “Suspicious Minds” at a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll in 2019.
In February of this past year, a multitude of musical talents came together for a one-of-a-kind event that served as an homage to Elvis in recognition of his achievements in the music business. According to Billboard, the memorial included performances from a number of artists, including Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Darius Rucker, Keith Urban, John Legend, and Ed Sheeran.
Shelton took the spotlight not just as a performer but also as a host for the event. Shelton performed a number of songs, including “If I Can Dream,” “Trouble,” “Guitar Man,” and others, in addition to his rowdy rendition of “Suspicious Minds.”
It should not have come as a shock that Shelton was chosen to perform “Suspicious Minds.” The song was such a tremendous success in the country music arena that several singers decided to record their own versions of it. Dwight Yoakam’s rendition from 1992 is often cited as one of the most successful versions. Gwen Stefani, who is dating Blake, performed the song with her band No Doubt in 2002 as an homage to Elvis Presley. The performance was recorded. We have no doubt that Shelton’s performance of the legendary song did Stefani justice with his interpretation.
