Gene Purdie, who was 16 years old at the time, was the first person to discover that he had a rare genetic eye illness called Stargardt’s disease. This ailment often starts in infancy, although it may also be detected in adults even though it is more common in children. Although Purdie was born with the condition, it wasn’t until the young man was in his teens that doctors were able to accurately identify the condition.

Due to the illness that Purdie suffered from, he has lost such a significant portion of his vision that he is now considered to be legally blind. The disorder causes distortions in certain portions of the sufferer’s field of vision. Because of this, Purdie is rapidly losing the capacity to see things in the center of his field of vision and can now only see things on the perimeter.

The severity of Purdie’s sickness has not prevented him from enjoying a normal life, despite the fact that Purdie’s eyesight isn’t quite what it used to be. After he had wed Joy, who would later become his wife, Lincoln, their son, was born.

In a letter written in November 2015 and sent to the presenter of “Rachael Ray,” Joy asked for aid on highlighting her husband’s growing brood by requesting that she be included in the program. Ray and eSight have been collaborating in order to make cutting-edge technology available to those who were struggling. Joy was aware of an episode in which a patient suffering from Stargardt’s illness was helped by the show to see her sisters smiling for the first time in many years.

After receiving a diagnosis of Stargardt’s illness, Purdie’s vision has improved to the point that she can now identify the outlines of things. He has never had the opportunity to experience the thrill of looking into the attractive face of his wife or the charming expressions that his small kid makes. Neither of these things have been possible for him.

Purdie is aware that he is missing out in many ways, but he is grateful for all the good things he does have in his life and makes the most of it by engaging in a variety of interests and activities. His son is growing up without him being able to see him, and this is especially difficult for him to bear.

But after Purdie accepted an offer to go on the “Rachel Ray” show and was given the opportunity to try out a pair of cutting-edge glasses that the technology’s inventors were just starting to experiment with, things began to change. When Purdie became an adult and was finally allowed to view the world in its true form, the first things that caught his attention were his family: his wife, his children.

While Joy was watching the performance from the sidelines, she was carrying their baby son Lincoln in her arms. When Purdie first laid eyes on Joy, he said, “Oh, she’s lovely.” What a blessing it was to be able to go to see his wife after such a long separation! When Joy found out that her husband or wife could now see her face, she burst into tears. It was the first time in their relationship that she was ever able to identify her husband while he was physically there, despite the fact that they had been together for quite some time.

The only reason that a doting spouse and their kid are able to share this heartwarming moment together is because modern technology has made it possible for families to be brought back together.
