AJ McLean is discussing the process by which he underwent a physical change as well as the reasons why he continues to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Since the beginning of this year, the vocalist for the Backstreet Boys and the most recent winner of RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race has reported to PEOPLE that he has lost 27 pounds.

The singer, who is now 44 years old, notes that “things tend to slow down when you reach to a certain age.” “And even though we haven’t slowed down, your body will eventually start to slow down at some time,” she said. “But we haven’t slowed down yet.”

The following is what he has to say next: “If you commit the time and you put in the effort, everything is achievable.” “For me, it began back when I did Dancing with the Stars [on season 29], and that’s when the health began to improve,” she said.

However, McLean acknowledges that the process has not been without its difficulties: “Then the holidays arrived, and obviously everyone goes a bit harder around the holidays and whatnot, and doesn’t exactly keep to a diet.”

The former member of the boy band BSB is now making an attempt to preserve his health to the greatest extent feasible, and he has been transparent about his road to sobriety. “In February of this past year, I was in South Africa working on a television project. I’ve managed to shed 27 pounds since February, so that’s good news “he adds.

“And once you get into a routine, and you start to see results and you start to feel better, you sleep better, your mental state of mind is better, and your focus is better,” the father of two explains. “And once you get into a routine, and you start to feel better, and you start to feel better, and you start to feel better” “You should simply keep going in that direction. You certainly don’t want to take a step backwards.”

McLean also mentions that he was able to maintain his fitness level thanks to his most recent tour. He and the other members of the band are now on the European leg of their DNA World Tour, which is set to continue through March 2023. In addition, the five-piece band just released their first holiday record, titled A Very Backstreet Christmas, not too long ago.

McLean told PEOPLE that the summer tour was beneficial since the first part of the show was performed outside, when the temperature reached 115 degrees. “It feels like the humidity is about ninety percent. Therefore, we are just reducing our weight without making any other changes.”

The singer also draws parallels between being on tour and the seasons that sportsmen compete in. “People don’t realize … We are similar to athletes, albeit I’m not suggesting that we’re on the level of Michael Jordan or Tom Brady “he elucidates for us

“What we put our bodies through is… pretty much what players go through throughout a season, or during the preseason,” he adds. “What we do to our bodies is extremely similar to what they do.” “On top of that, we’re singing,” the speaker said.

The performer, who is also a singer and dancer, has no plans to retire any time soon. “I believe for us, because we’re showmen, because we’re performers first and singers, we love to put on a wonderful show,” he continues. “I think for us, because we’re showmen, because we’re performers first and singers.” “And we are going to continue dancing and doing what we do until our bodies physically prevent us from doing it any longer.”
