Betts, who was going to be Nash’s future wife, misheard her prospective husband say that her true name was Carol. Betts, who is 40 years old, believed she heard “Cora.”
Betts said, “I had been calling her Cora for close to two years,” until recently. “One day, she exclaimed, ‘Why do you call me Cora?’ In response, I said, “That’s your name!”
“Oh, no! That’s not it!” A shout came from Nash. I was under the impression that it was a slang term that hip young people in New York City used to refer to one other on the street.
