An Emmy Award has been given in Chadwick Boseman’s honor after he has passed away.
The award was given to the actor for his work in the Marvel series What If…? at the event for the Creative Arts Emmys, which took place on Saturday evening. The actor passed away in August 2020 at the age of 43 due to colon cancer.
Chadwick’s portrayal as Star-Lord T’Challa in the episode titled “What If… T’Challa Became a Star-Lord?” earned him the award for outstanding character voice-over performance.
It was Chadwick’s first time being nominated for an Emmy and winning the prize.
Simone Ledward Boseman, Chadwick’s widow, took the stage to collect the award on his behalf after her husband passed away. After taking the stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Simone addressed the audience and discussed how her late husband filmed the part despite his own struggle with his health.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, she was quoted as saying, “When I learned that Chad was nominated for this award, I started thinking about everything that was going on when he was recording — everything that was going on in the world and in our world and just being in such awe of his commitment and his dedication.” “When I learned that Chad was nominated for this award, I started thinking about everything that was going on when he was recording — everything that was going on in the world and in our
And what a beautifully aligned moment it really is that one of the last things he would work on would not only be revisiting a character that was so important to him and his career and to the world, but also that it be an exploration of something new, diving into a new potential future — particularly with everything he spoke about purpose and finding the reason that you are here on the planet at this very time, continued Simone. “And what a beautifully aligned moment it really is that one of the last things You can’t understand your purpose unless you’re willing to ask, “What if?” and unless you’re willing to say, “What if the universe is conspiring in my favor, what if it’s me?” “You can’t understand your purpose unless you’re willing to ask, “What if?” and unless you’re willing to say, “What if the universe is conspiring in my favor, what
Simone, who was wearing a black tulle Pamella Roland caped gown with silver sequin and pearl linear embroidery embellishments, said as she came to a conclusion, “Thank you so much for the honor – Chad would be so delighted, and I’m honored on his behalf.”
On August 28, 2020, Chadwick passed away as a result of colon cancer. In 2016, he was given a diagnosis of stage III colon cancer, which he had been fighting in secret as it advanced to stage IV over the course of the previous four years.
Yondu transforms an alternative version of Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther character into Star-Lord in the fan-created film “What If…?,” rather than Peter Quill, as was the case in the canonical version of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
The animated series contains renditions of some of the most popular characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Thor and Peggy Carter. Many of these characters are voiced by the actors who have played them in live-action for many years.
In the movie “Black Panther” from 2018, Chadwick played the canon version of King T’Challa. A significant portion of the original cast as well as director and co-writer Ryan Coogler are expected to return for the upcoming release of the sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is scheduled to take place in November of this year.
What Happens If…? is now streaming on Disney+.
