Social networks come with a number of advantages, but they also have a number of disadvantages that cause a great deal of concern for some parents.

Despite the fact that Lorna Goldstrand Klefsaas, a mother from Minnesota in the United States, did not want her son Sievert to use social networks an excessive amount, she did not want to outright forbid him from doing so. Instead, she devised a different strategy to redirect the child’s focus away from the smartphone so that she could continue using it.

When Sievert was just 12 years old, his mother issued a bet to him that required him to refrain from using social media until he reached the age of majority, at which point he would be entitled to a payout of $1,800. The teenager took up the challenge and decided to abstain from using social media for a full period of six years.

“I don’t have anything against social media in general, but I do advocate the use of them in a responsible manner. Lorna, Sivert’s mother, believes that people shouldn’t be reliant on them in any way.

Because Sievert had not yet had time to become accustomed to social networks and did not feel that he was missing out on much by not utilizing them prior to the bet, six years passed without any problems and nervous breakdowns brought on by the absence of them. This was because Sievert had not yet had time to become accustomed to social networks. The young guy worked hard to complete the assignment that his mother had given him, and he was rewarded monetarily for his efforts when he became 18 years old.

Because of this, when the man reached the age of 18, he was able to properly complete the task that was entrusted to him by his mother. As a consequence, he was granted the money reward that he justly earned, which he would spend to equip a room in a university residence hall.

Since Sievert is no longer prohibited from accessing social media, he is more likely to devote his time to learning or working out instead of spending excessive amounts of time on these platforms.
