In 2019, actress Kathleen Turner stated that she and actor Michael Douglas had a close relationship when co-starring in the classic film “Romancing the Stone” in 1984. Douglas was Kathleen Turner’s co-star at the time.
Turner said that the sexual connection between her and the Academy Award winner was too genuine, despite the fact that the two of them were bad at flirting with one another.
“The connection was there, and Michael and I were both awful flirts,” the 67-year-old recounted to the Daily Mail about how close they were during that time period. This was in reference to how close they got to one other.
Turner said that she had a suspicion that the 76-year-old man was no longer married to his wife. Then, when she made her way onto the set one day, she was surprised to see his wife there with him:
“I was under the impression that Michael was alone. We were in the forest, and I was experiencing really amorous feelings towards him at the time. It was predetermined to take place. When I arrived on set one day, I was surprised to see that his wife was already there.”
Diandra Luker was Douglas’s wife, and the pair had been married for a total of six years at the time of this sentence’s writing. As soon as Turner saw her, she had an abrupt awakening and understood that he was, in fact, a married man:
“She made that point quite obvious to me when she was seated next to him. That settled the matter. You should avoid causing trouble for the spouse of another lady.”
In the May edition of People magazine in 2021, Turner confessed, “Oh, I was longing, darling,” adding that she felt there was still a chance that the two of them would have a romantic relationship in real life.
Following the success of the action-packed comedy, Douglas and Turner became one of the most famous romantic comedy duos in the history of Hollywood. The performer, who was nominated for a Tony Award, recalled with warmth the following dynamic from several sequences in the movie:
“You are aware of the great sexual tension that existed, aren’t you? When you know in your heart that you desire someone – and I should clarify that I mean both of you – yet you just cannot have them. It is just delightful.”
In a separate incident, Luker warned Turner to remove her hands off her spouse so she could continue their conversation. When Douglas and Turner’s wife walked into the hotel in Valencia where they were having dinner, they were surprised.
That afforded her the opportunity to comment on it in front of me… Turner was able to recollect. Luker then stated to her, “You know we’re still married, and I have no intention of terminating it.” She then stretched out to pat an imaginary hand, and he replied, “I have no intention of ending it.”
Turner replied to herself in her head, “That settles it. Interfering in that situation is the very last thing I would ever do to another lady. I felt nauseous.” The woman who was born and raised in Missouri said that while it was thrilling to be falling in love, she felt as if she had been punched in the stomach. Despite everything, she and Douglas have managed to keep their relationship going strong for almost 40 years.
Despite the fact that things did not work out as planned with Douglas, Turner was finally successful in finding love with real estate mogul Jay Weiss, with whom she had a daughter who is now 34 years old. The wedding took place in 1984, and the actor from “Body Heat” said that it was one of the most memorable days of his life:
“Our wedding was really one of the most memorable events ever. We rented a large beach home and made accommodations there for both families. We rented a tiny home in the dunes and lived there with Jay. Everyone had a great time and got to know one another while they were there.”
Rachel was the first and only child of the couple, who welcomed her into the world in October of 1987. Turner said that her partner got up every morning at 5:00 a.m. in order to be there at the hospital when their newborn kid and the new mother had their first feedings.
Weiss took up the feeding schedule at 6 a.m. when they returned home, while Turner continued to nurse her child at 9 p.m., midnight, and 3 a.m., while continuing to do so while lying in bed.
In an interview with People magazine in March 2008, Turner discussed becoming a mother and said that the experience was “wonderful.” She freely stated that she was not the finest parent for her little child, but she did have a beautiful Filipino nurse who assisted her and did an outstanding job.
She has won the Golden Globe Award twice, and when asked about her connection with Weiss, one of those wins was for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. After a surprising 23 years of marriage, they divorced in 2007, but they have maintained a friendly relationship since then. Turner said that the man who was the father of her kid was her closest friend and that the two of them had lunch together once a week.
During that time, the parents visited their daughter in college by driving up north, and the family spent every holiday together. In the midst of their separation, the couple decided to sell their beach property in Amagansett, which was located on the easternmost tip of Long Island. Because Turner was content to give it to Weiss, the family dog eventually became Weiss’s possession.
The attentive mother reflected on what she had learned from her marriage and said that it had instilled in her the importance of remembering that every commitment and every action had an effect on the subsequent person.
Turner said openly that she did not do as well in her relationship as she ought to have, and she added that her drinking habits were without a doubt a major element in this regard.
Weiss, on the other hand, did not look back with regrets but instead treasured the time they spent together and even praised Turner during an appearance she made on FirstWivesWorld in January 2008.
Weiss described his ex-wife to the show’s presenter, Debbie Nigro, as “a really beautiful, amazing lady,” and he added, “she and I had a very spectacular existence together.”
Weiss said that it felt like everyone was searching for a big passionate love with no turmoil, which was unattainable when asked what it was like to date again after being married.
In the meanwhile, in December of 2021, his ex-wife admitted that she still had significant emotions for him, despite the fact that they were no longer in a romantic relationship with one.
Turner said that she did not feel that it was possible for a person’s love for another to ever fade just due to the fact that the two are no longer romantically linked with one another.
Whatever the case may be, a lot of things have transpired in the time since her divorce from Weiss. A few years ago, Turner embarked on an entirely new initiative by commencing a singing career, which she marketed in London in March of 2018.
She collaborated with a select group of individuals, including a coach and a musical director. Soon enough, they discovered tunes that they all enjoyed, and Turner said that once they did, “I felt wonderful singing.”
The superstar, who is famous for her unique and harsh voice, did not begin her career in music until she was 40 years old. In September of 2017, she made her debut as a cabaret singer in Philadelphia. This was her first performance anywhere in the globe.
When asked why she waited so long to go headfirst into the music business, Turner said that a portion of it was due to her fear of failure. Because he felt she could only have a career in acting, she confined herself to that one path for her whole life. However, the reason behind it was more about protecting oneself than anything else.
Turner said that she had never been interested in singing until 2014, when Molly Smith, the creative director of Arena Stage in Washington, requested her to perform Bertolt Brecht’s “Mother Courage and Her Children.” She consented, then gave the performance her best effort, and then she took it to the next level from there.
