Here’s a wonderful video of the first time a formerly blind and stray Cocker Spaniel meets her owners after having much-needed surgery.

Olive’s human, Holly Emmerson, shared a video of her excitement and anticipation as she traveled to see Olive after her eye surgery. Because it would be Olive’s first encounter in three years, Holly and her husband Bart had no clue what to expect.

Olive was found as a stray on the streets of Los Angeles and was saved. She was unable to see because of severe cataracts in both of her eyes. However, it took some time for Holly and Bart to raise the necessary finances for her operation, which they were able to do with the help of West Coast Cocker Rescue, as well as friends and family.

Soon as she rounds the corner of the veterinary building while wearing her Elizabethan cone, Olive latches on to their faces and starts wagging her tail frantically. Her heightened awareness of her surroundings suddenly shifts as she takes everything in for the first time with her enhanced eyesight. After that, it’s out for a stroll and some fun, which is made even more remarkable by Olive’s ability to see everything clearly in her immediate environment!

When Holly subsequently reflected on the occurrence, she said, “It was an extraordinary moment to see, seeing her so conscious and looking us in the eyes.”
