After suffering catastrophic injuries in the line of duty, Patrick Hardison, a former fireman, had an operation that was considered to be pioneering. He became the first person to receive a complete face transplant.
Although Patrick was able to escape the fall of a ceiling as he was being rescued, he was left with serious facial deformity instead.

For a period of fourteen years, he endured the physical and mental obstacles, which included the dissolution of his marriage and the difficulties he had in dealing with public humiliation.
Using the face of a donor who had passed away, he underwent a transplant in 2015 that would forever alter his life. It took Patrick a year to acclimate to his new life once he recovered, but he is now enjoying a completely different existence.

He said that the operation “gave me my life back,” and he described how, for the first time in fifteen years, he was able to swim with his children at Disneyland and participate in things that were considered to be normal, such as transporting them to school.
In light of the fact that Patrick’s transplant was a groundbreaking medical feat, he is now planning to assist other firemen who have been wounded.

Because of his new appearance, he is finally able to restore aspects of his life that he had believed were gone for good, such as regaining his driver’s license.
