Following the Princess of Wales’s recuperation from the illness she was diagnosed with in early 2024, Prince William and Kate Middleton have not taken many trips in the last year. As a senior working member of the Royal Family, they will ultimately have to commit to more travels away from their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, but this has meant more time with their kids.
The epidemic gave William and Kate the opportunity to spend more time with their kids and spared them from having to go overseas for a year or two. While Prince Louis is still awaiting his first vacation, Prince George and Princess Charlotte have already accompanied them on a couple of their travels.
Even though the Prince and Princess of Wales haven’t been apart from their kids for a long time, leaving them must be difficult for them, just as it is for every parent. A royal specialist claims that Kate Middleton has battled these emotions often, and that on a 2022 international trip, they became intolerable.
Representing the Royal Family both domestically and sometimes abroad is a significant—if not the most significant—aspect of being a senior member. On several occasions, Prince William and Kate Middleton have traveled abroad on various missions, sometimes even bringing their two oldest children along. Meanwhile, Prince Louis has yet to go on his first royal trip.

Fortunately, there are many individuals available to assist William and Kate in caring for the kids when they aren’t traveling abroad with their parents. Their nanny, Maria Borrallo, is always available, but so are other family members, especially Kate’s side.
Carole and Michael Middleton, her parents, have always provided for their daughter and her siblings. And naturally, they were overjoyed to become grandparents.
Carole and Michael are busy raising Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, in addition to Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton’s three children and brother James’s infant son. According to reports, they spend a lot of time with their grandparents, who reside close to Adelaide Cottage in Berkshire.
Carole and Michael Middleton played a vital part in providing care for George, Charlotte, and Louis while Kate was recuperating at home after her illness treatment.
One insider told People Magazine, “Her parents are an enduring factor in the upbringing of their grandchildren.” “And when she returns to Windsor to recover, they will be a comforting presence.”
One really fortunate aspect of George, Charlotte, and Louis’s big family is the abundance of relatives they can play with.

James Middleton, Kate’s brother, said in The Telegraph that George, Charlotte, and Louis are excellent at keeping their toddler, Indigo, content since they often play with him.
Each royal sibling “plays their role in looking after Inigo,” he claimed.
“There are currently seven of them (cousins) in total,” James said. They’re all amazed, I believe, by how much of a mess Inigo can create. However, there is a lot of chuckles and laughs.
Prince George has a very clear plan for the future: he will become king one day. However, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will have different responsibilities within the Royal Family. They are comparable to Prince Harry since they are the siblings of a future monarch. Indeed, Prince William and Kate Middleton are well aware of it, according to royal analyst Jennie Bond, and are taking steps to prevent Charlotte and Louis from seeing themselves as “spares,” like their uncle did.
Bond told the Mirror, “They have already demonstrated that they have a distinct and contemporary approach to raising royal children, and I’m confident they will stop at nothing to make Charlotte and Louis feel as unique, cherished, and appreciated as George.”
They will probably urge Louis to go outside of the royal family. After his studies are over, he may choose to serve in the military, work for a nonprofit, or pursue any other career path that interests him. They will undoubtedly persuade him to enroll in university, which they both loved and where they naturally found love.
“And from there they will want him to find a life that is meaningful to him as well as appropriate for the son of a future King,” the royal expert went on. As they have emphasized from the beginning that they want their children to understand that having empathy for others is not only a kindness but also rewarding, they will work to make sure he feels that he is leading a life of value, regardless of where he stands in the line of succession. This will likely entail some form of service.
“Kate and William don’t want history to happen again.”
William and Kate may inspire Louis to explore other interests and discover his passion outside of the royal life, as Bond said. If he chooses to stay in the royal family, he will probably be given a prominent senior position in the monarchy along with key titles.
Bond is not alone, however, in thinking that Louis may be able to undertake more than merely royal engagements. Speaking to OK!, per Yahoo, Camilla Tominey, royal expert and associate editor at The Telegraph, claimed Prince William and Kate Middleton will want Charlotte and Louis to “have their own careers” if they want to.
“[William & Kate] don’t want history to repeat itself and Prince Louis seem like a royal hanger-on and go down the Duke of York path,” she told the Telegraph.
She said, “A lot of the smaller royals have their own careers, so they aren’t really being funded by taxpayers.” “The extent to which the Cambridges have tried to normalise the lives of their children very much points in the direction of – yes, Prince George has his destiny mapped out but Princess Charlotte and Louis’ having their own careers?’”

Tominey concluded: “They’ve got to get the balance right of what their own children want to do with their lives and their royal commitments.”
Although we’ll surely get to see Prince Louis travel with his parents and siblings in the future, William and Kate won’t bring their children along too often. That goes for public life in general, and both William and Kate are reportedly aware of this.
Speaking on True Royalty TV’s The Royal, royal expert Lizzie Robinson said that Louis is absent from many events because the Prince and Princess of Wales are “careful” when it comes to introducing him to life in the public eye.
“They’ve [Prince and Princess of Wales] been really careful to manage how they’ve done it and what they’ve taken them to,” Robinson explained. “They’ve considered each event on a case-by-case basis. And the fact that Louis wasn’t taken suggests that they are considering what they think is right for each child at what time. So, you know, his time will come.”
Sporting events and being active have always been big interests for Prince William and Kate Middleton. But at significant events such as Euro 2024–to which William brought Prince George – or the Wimbledon final – to which Kate brought Princess Charlotte — Louis hasn’t been present.
GB News royal reporter Svar Nanan-Sen explained that Louis is, simply put, too young.

“One royal child who was not at England’s Euro 2024 defeat or Wimbledon was Prince Louis,” Nanan-Sen said on The Royal Record Podcast, adding that it had “causes quite a stir online,” as many wanted Louis to be in attendance.
“He’s still only six, we have to remember. Charlotte made her first appearance at Wimbledon when she was eight, so he’s got to wait a couple more years. But Kate did say last year when George and Charlotte went to Wimbledon without Louis, that he was very upset about it.”
Even though Prince William and Kate Middleton get incredible support, both from their family and royal aides such as their nanny, while away, it can be safely assumed that not being with their children is tough.
For Kate, that was especially true in 2022 when she visited the Caribbean. She and William left their three children in the UK at the time, and it was a challenging period for the Princess of Wales. Royal expert Katie Nicholl stated that Kate finds it incredibly tough to be away from her children. In fact, the princess has admitted it herself.
“Despite being the Princess of Wales and being able to afford around-the-clock nannies and so on, she had her mum looking after Prince George and Princess Charlotte, which struck me as just really normal. I could see how much comfort and confidence that gave her in getting on with her job, which she does brilliantly, but I think it is always such a wrench for her to leave her children behind,” Kate said.
