The main character of today’s tale is a woman who, after experiencing feelings of marginalization inside her own marriage, makes the decision to defy her husband’s decision to provide consistent financial support to his mother. This choice, which was made with the intention of safeguarding the well-being of their immediate family, sets off a chain reaction of emotional consequences, which ultimately results in accusations and wounded sentiments.
She detailed the events that took place.
Matteo, who is 31 years old, and I, who is 33 years old, have been married for four months and have been together for three years. During the time that we were dating, his mother would phone him at random and beg for money, often ranging from two thousand to six thousand dollars. He informed me that she had been engaging in this behavior for a number of years, but he did not care since he had a career that paid well and he had the discretionary resources to contribute to her financial needs.
The fact that she approached her son for money has always seemed a little strange to me since my father-in-law is a prosperous businessman in his city, and I was informed that they had joint accounts before she asked him for money. When we were engaged, we spoke about his mother’s financial demands, and my husband promised that he would put a stop to them. He came through with his promise. Once he refused to give her money, she stopped phoning him all together.
On Tuesday of last week, my mother-in-law contacted my husband and begged for fifteen thousand dollars. She said that she needed the money for a trip. After he informed her that he would not be able to, she wrote me a long text message in which she said that I had no right to interfere in the connection that a mother has with her son. I did not answer to her message. When I asked my husband whether his parents were experiencing financial difficulties, he said that, to the best of his knowledge, everything was going well between them.

To tell you the truth, my husband’s younger sister and my father-in-law came over for lunch today. During the time that my father-in-law was assisting us in selecting a bottle of wine, I inquired about the state of affairs at home. He glanced at me in a perplexed manner and inquired about what I was talking about. It was at that moment that my husband informed him about her contacting us to ask for money.
My mother-in-law has been requesting money in cash from my husband in a covert manner, as it has come to light. My father-in-law informed us that she was taking money out of the bank the previous year and that she was doing so in order to assist in paying for our wedding. However, she was lying to us and she never gave us a single penny.
Instantaneously, my father-in-law departed, and a few hours later, my mother-in-law phoned me weeping and said that I had a big mouth and that I had wrecked her life. My father-in-law has disassociated himself from my mother-in-law until he is certain that he can trust her once again. He has sent us a cheque to pay us back. We are receiving phone calls from my husband’s maternal family, who are claiming that I am the malicious party.
