In the year 2023, a runner by the name of Kayleigh Williamson, who was 33 years old at the time, distinguished herself by being one of the first women to ever finish the New York City Marathon. Without the assistance of her mother, Sandy Williamson, who was there with her throughout the marathon, none of this would have been possible under any circumstances.
Kayleigh’s trip was over 26.2 miles long and lasted over 10 hours and 9 minutes, as stated in a story that was published by People Magazine in November of that year. The voyage was extremely remarkable for Kayleigh’s mother.
Sandy gave an interview to the journal in which she discussed the event and remarked on the fact that her daughter had a cheerful attitude throughout the race.
“She would stop what she was doing and dance whenever she heard music. She said that the last two kilometers were a very difficult time for her. “It was very emotional for her.”
There were times when Kayleigh would become fatigued because “her muscles were sore,” and it pained her. This was one of the barriers that she encountered along the path. Not everything happened to be a complete and utter delight.
In spite of everything, the kind lady remained resolute and did not give up without a fight.
Additionally, Kayleigh expressed her opinions about the marathon, and it would seem that she had a fantastic time, as she said, “I am a diva… My hair was constantly being fixed during the whole race. When I crossed the finish line, I performed a victory dance.
Sandy went on to clarify that this was not the first time that her daughter had participated in a marathon of this kind, as she had previously been a participant in the Boston Marathon in the past. She then ran twenty more half-marathons and finished the Austin Marathon, which was twenty-one miles long.
2017 was the year when everything started. The terrible diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease that Sandy’s mother received at the time prompted her to make a change in her lifestyle and become more active. As a result, Sandy was motivated to begin running.
During that time, Kayleigh was also interested in competing with her in races.
It would seem that Kayleigh intended to participate in the marathons not just for the pleasure and delight they would provide, but also as a means to honor her maternal grandmother, who had gone away in the year 2021.
Sandy went on to say that the phrase “Running in memory of my grandma, memories matter, Alzheimer’s awareness” was printed on the back of her shirt.
Kayleigh could be seen completing the New York City Marathon in a video that was uploaded to the official Instagram page of the New York City Marathon. After running for many hours, she grew upset by the time the marathon was over. At the conclusion of the marathon, she also extended a warm embrace to a lady whose name was Tina Muir.
Through a GoFundMe website, Tina gave further details about Kayleigh’s tale. She said that Sandy had been informed that her daughter would not be able to walk before she became five years old. However, because of her dogged drive and unwavering enthusiasm, Kayleigh continued to motivate and encourage people.
Tina said the following in a separate interview with Runner’s World that was published in the year 2023: “The energy that Kayleigh offers to everyone who is fortunate enough to be in her company at that time is unparalleled… Pure love is what Kayleigh is. It is quite clear that she has an effect on individuals at every stage of the process.
The fact that users commented on Kayleigh’s famous video, which had received more than three million likes as of December 2023, gave the impression that Kayleigh had, in fact, had a significant influence on a large number of individuals who were online.
To put it simply, I am in tears. Congratulations on your accomplishments! someone wrote.
“You just did it! The sight of you completing the task was quite motivating. There was another person who commented, “Sending love and hugs.”
Just now, this has made my evening! Really motivating! One person remarked, “Thank you very much and congratulations!”
