The Academy Award winner made an appearance on the most recent edition of Brady’s podcast, ‘Let’s Go,’ and he and the former NFL great had some laughs together.
Tom Brady is studying acting under the tutelage of one of the most renowned actors of all time: Denzel Washington. As part of his visit on the most recent edition of the Let’s Go podcast with Tom Brady and journalist Jim Gray, the recipient of the Academy Award was persuaded to recreate one of the most well-known sequences from his performance in the film Remember the Titans, which was released in the year 2000.
In the film, Washington played the role of real-life coach Herman Boone, who, in 1971, was attempting to integrate the T. C. Williams High School football team in Alexandria, Virginia. The film was set around that time period. Even now, more than 20 years after the film’s first release, it is widely considered to be among the very greatest football movies ever made.
In the episode that aired on Tuesday, Brady and Washington did a line reading of the scene in which Coach Boone is introducing himself to his new squad.
The seven-time Super Bowl winner said to Washington, “I’ve got to get my game face on,” to which the actor answered, “Get your game face on, let’s go, Tom.”

Washington does the same thing to Brady, pushing him to improvise while they read lines, as a tribute to the moment in which the character Petey Jones (Donald Faison) gets tripped up as Coach Boone makes him answer rapid-fire questions about whether or not he genuinely thinks football is fun. In that scene, the character gets tripped up as Coach Boone makes him answer rapid-fire questions about whether or not he actually believes football is fun.
“It was a lot of fun,” Washington (as Boone) said over and over again. “However, it wasn’t that entertaining, was it? No, not any longer?”
“Not at this time,” was Brady’s response. “Not right now what?” When Washington inquired, Brady hesitated before responding. “Come on, you’re going to have to learn how to improvise. Not at this moment, what?”
“Not right now,” Brady said again and again.
At the end of the sequence, Brady applauded Washington and said, “That’s for your performance, not mine.” Washington thanked Brady for the compliment. That was just incredible.
“I’m coaching Tom Brady,” Washington joked in the conversation. “Are you joking?”
Washington gave an interview for the podcast in which he spoke about his career and the factors that have contributed to his success over the years. The actor most recently appeared in The Equalizer 3, the last chapter in the film version of the 1980s television series of the same name. He played the part of Robert McCall, a man who is motivated by a sense of justice.
The Equalizer is a film series starring Denzel Washington as a retired United States Marine and former DIA officer who has a strong urge to dispense justice in his own manner and assist individuals who are being mistreated. This drive often draws him back into missions that put him in danger. Both of these films had their world premieres in separate years, the first in 2014 and the second in 2018.
When asked what motivated him to return to the film series, Washington said, “it’s unfinished business,” in an interview with ET that took place before the film’s release in September.
He said, “You know, the doormen in my building in New York love this guy. They adore him.” When I ask them what other movies they’ve seen, their response is always the same: “Oh yeah, Fences, yeah, good movie.” However, when is the [Equalizer] coming back?’ I’m thinking to myself, ‘Why do you adore him?’ Because he can get people that we can’t get, he adds, and you know what he means by that. He brings everyone on a level playing field. He goes and exacts his vengeance on those who need something more than a simple reprimand. Therefore, I’m the ideal candidate for the position.”
Even though the actor has enjoyed working with director Antoine Fuqua — for the fifth time — and Dakota Fanning — 19 years after they acted together in the film Man on Fire (2004) — he is convinced that Equalizer 3 is his last time “stepping into the ring” as Robert McCall. This is despite the fact that he has had a great experience reconciling with both of them.
“This marks the conclusion of my journey. It may not be the end, they may do another one, but it’s the end for me,” he told ET, joking that even a “huge check” wouldn’t influence him to change his mind. “It may not be the end, but it’s the end for me.” “Never say never, but you know…”
As for Brady, the athlete has also dabbled in acting in the past, albeit most of his appearances have been cameos in which he plays the role of himself. His most recent appearance was in the film 80 In the movie “For Brady,” based on a real tale, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field portray four friends who go on an exciting journey to see their favorite athlete compete in the 2017 Super Bowl. This was Brady’s first performance in a part in a full-length motion picture.
The former professional athlete told ET that seeing his name on a movie marquee is something he never dreamed of happening even in his “wildest dreams.” He also said that seeing his name on a movie poster was a “surreal experience.”
“Not even in my wildest imagination did I ever think that anything like this would really be something that I would be doing. A buddy of mine actually just mentioned this to me today and remarked, “Imagine as a Northern California kid thinking you’d go down for a Hollywood premiere with your name on it.” Brady did not hoard. “That is truly incredible. My life has been filled with many wonderful experiences, and this one is right up there with the best of them.
When questioned about potential next jobs, Brady responded with a teasing, “We’ll see. Put in some bids, and we’ll see what we can work out.”
“I’m trying to make sense of it all. Just trying to take things as they come,” he continued. My close buddy often says, ‘The future comes one day at a time,’ which leads me to believe that this is the way life should be lived. I’m having a good time tonight. This is truly going to be a great night for me, as well as for a lot of the other people who have put a lot of effort into this, and I am so happy to be here to show my support for them.
