Mariska Hargitay, who is 59 years old and stars on the television show “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and her husband, Peter Hermann, who is 56 years old just celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary. The wedding took place in 2004, and the couple now has three children together.
On the occasion of their special day, Hargitay sent a heartfelt message of appreciation to Hermann on Instagram. The newlywed couple can be seen in the photograph that she uploaded holding each other quite tightly as they dance together during their reception.
Hermann, who was dressed impeccably in a black suit with a pink tie, was tenderly smiling at his wife as he tenderly clutched onto her hand and patted her back. Hargitay, whose hair was styled in a chiffon bun and adorned with a gorgeous flower pin, captioned the stunning photograph as follows:
“Nineteen years. The best dance I’ve ever had. Only dance I’ve ever known in my life.”
The two individuals had their initial encounter while filming an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and their first date was held at a place of worship. Hargitay revealed the following about the emotions she was experiencing when she first met Hermann:
“At first, I mistook him for Superman.”
Even Hargitay’s friend and co-star, Christopher Meloni, was able to pick up on the spark that existed between Hargitay and Hermann at their first meeting. In a prior interview, he discussed how he could tell from Hargitay’s behavior that she had a crush on Hermann (who appeared on the program as a guest), and how he was able to deduce this from her conduct.
Despite the fact that Hargitay and Hermann began dating not long after this event, there was a period of time when the pair came dangerously close to breaking up. Meloni related one incident in which Hargitay approached him and confessed in him about a discussion she had with Hermann that came dangerously close to destroying their relationship:
“…She says, “Peter and I had a really in-depth conversation. It was really long.” We shed some tears, but I simply have a bad feeling about this situation’s outcome. And throughout the whole time that she was crying, the only thing that went through my mind was, “You’ll be married in less than half a year.”

When it came to making his prognosis, Meloni turned out to be spot-on accurate. The wedding took place on August 28, 2004, and was attended by both Hargitay and Hermann.
The eventful day began, as reported by a news source that covered the significant occasion, with a stunning-looking Hargitay being taken to the wedding location in Santa Barbara by her father. The bride arrived at the ceremony in a vintage Jaguar while wearing a very elegant, sleeveless, blush-colored Carolina Herrera gown and a lace-trimmed veil.
Hargitay, who had decked her hair with gardenias and flowers and had the initials of her husband stitched on the hem of her dress, went down the aisle clutching her father’s hand as she entered the location for the wedding. Her father read an E.E. Cummings poem while she and Hermann stood at the altar. Hermann was dressed in a black Dolce and Gabbana suit with a pink tie.
After exchanging vows at the chapel where they were married, the event came to a close with a gospel choir performing a lyrical version of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” as the newlywed couple departed the location. As the joyful couple and their guests made their way to the reception, Hargitay arrived at the venue with one hand clutching a bouquet that had been artfully arranged and the other clinging onto the hand of her husband.
In addition to being attended by members of the host’s family and close friends, Jodie Foster, Joely Fisher, Hilary Swank, Chad Lowe, and Christopher Meloni were also in attendance. The private estate close to Montecito, which served as the location of the celebration, was exquisitely decorated in a verdant atmosphere. Lovely flower arrangements, vine-covered alcoves, and dining tables decorated with roses, lilies of the valley, dahlias, fruit, and grasses were some of the features of the setting that was modeled like a forest.
Additional one-of-a-kind details were Hargitay’s jewelry, each piece of which has a significant significance. She wore a locket with images of her mother and grandmother fastened to her outfit, in addition to some very magnificent diamond earrings and a bracelet.
Despite the fact that Hargitay and Hermann may have had a difficult time at the time when they were on the verge of breaking up, the pair is still going strong and is enjoying a wonderful life together as a family of five. They have a daughter named Amaya who is 12 and two boys named August who are 17 and 12 respectively.
