The passing has occurred of John Gosling, a British keyboardist, pianist, and singer who was most known for his work with The Kinks. His age was 75.
The legendary English rock band broke the news in a post on Instagram on Friday, one day after Gosling’s passing away. The message was an homage to Gosling.
“The news of John Gosling’s departure has left us in utter disbelief and profound sorrow. The words “We are sending our condolences to John’s wife and family” were written in the comment section of the post. In addition to this, individual comments were given by each member of the band as part of the homage.
Dave Davies expressed his feelings by saying, “I’m dismayed and deeply upset by the passing of John Gosling.” During his time with us, he has been a good friend and has made significant contributions to the music of the Kinks. My deepest condolences go out to his wife and his family. I will always have a profound sense of fondness and love for him deep inside my heart. A fantastic musician and a wonderful human being.”
Mick Avory said, “We lost a dear friend and colleague, he was an incredible musician and had a fantastic sense of humor…. which made him a popular member of the band.” “He leaves behind a few pleasant recollections for us. May God bless him”
Gosling first joined The Kinks in 1970, four years after the band’s founding in 1963. He did so after auditioning with his recordings of some of the band’s most successful songs, such as “This Time Tomorrow” and “Powerman.”
Gosling made his first significant contribution to the band as well as his first recording with them on their single “Lola” from 1970. Although the song had previously been written, the final mix of the song included Gosling’s piano playing as well as his backup vocals.
He was a member of the band for a total of eight years, from 1972 to 1978, when he decided to leave, and Ian Gibbons was finally brought in to take his place. Gosling created the band The Kast Off Kinks in 1994. The band’s lineup consisted of former members of The Kinks who had performed with the band over the course of many decades. Gosling was the lead singer of the band. In 2008, he decided to call it quits with the band.
The Kast Off Kinks also posted a tribute to the musician on their Facebook page, writing, “The Kast Off Kinks are devastated by the news of the passing of former keyboard player John ‘The Baptist’ Gosling,” and included a link to a memorial page that had been created on Facebook in Gosling’s honor.
