A woman in her 30s and her newborn baby were discovered dead in their home in Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland, following what authorities believe was a medical emergency during a home birth.

Monika Kubasiewicz’s partner reportedly found the mother and child in the bathroom of their home on the afternoon of May 8 and immediately contacted emergency services and Gardaí. Despite a rapid response, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to local reports, investigators believe Kubasiewicz experienced complications while giving birth. A postmortem examination on the mother was completed on May 9, while an examination for the baby is expected to take place later this week. Officials have stated that foul play is not suspected, and the incident is being treated as a tragic medical event.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths and are preparing a report for the coroner.

The family, originally from Poland, had reportedly been living in Ireland for several years. Sources told local media they had recently moved into the home after previously staying in emergency accommodation following financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Neighbors described Kubasiewicz as a quiet and caring mother to her young children. One resident said the community was devastated by the tragedy, especially for the children left behind.

A family liaison officer has been assigned to support the family, while local officials have urged the public not to spread rumors or speculate about the incident.
