Former New York City mayor and longtime ally of Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

According to his spokesperson, Ted Goodman, who shared the update on social media on Sunday, May 3, the 81-year-old is currently in “stable but critical condition.”

No additional information was provided, and the reason for Giuliani’s hospitalization remains unknown at this time. Although he was involved in a car accident late last year, there is no indication that the two incidents are related.

Donald Trump, whom Giuliani has strongly supported and defended over the years, took to Truth Social to praise him, calling him the “greatest mayor in New York City history.”

In his message, Trump also used the situation to criticize Democrats, suggesting they were somehow responsible.

“Our incredible Rudy Giuliani, a true fighter and by far the greatest mayor New York City has ever had, has been hospitalized and is in critical condition,” Trump wrote.

He went on to claim that Giuliani had been treated unfairly by political opponents, blaming Democrats and repeating his stance that the 2020 election had been mishandled.

Giuliani previously served as a key legal advisor during Trump’s presidency and remained a prominent supporter afterward.

Following the 2020 election, the 81-year-old consistently promoted claims that the election had been stolen from Trump by Joe Biden. He also spoke at the “Stop the Steal” rally held before the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot.

In the aftermath, Giuliani was disbarred in both New York and Washington, D.C. due to those unproven allegations. He also faced a defamation lawsuit from two election workers in Georgia, which was reportedly settled last year.
