Dean Withers, a 21-year-old livestreamer and political commentator, has once again gone viral — this time for his raw and emotional response to the shocking assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Broke Down on Livestream
Withers, who first gained traction in 2023 through fiery yet thoughtful debates with conservatives, has built a massive online presence: more than 4.3 million TikTok followers, 346,000 YouTube subscribers, and close to 18 million total video views. His breakout moment came with clips like “Can 1 Woke Teen Survive 20 Trump Supporters?” which alone has drawn over 17 million views.

Raised in a conservative household in Grand Junction, Colorado, Withers underwent a dramatic political transformation after years of debating liberals and conducting independent research. Now, he’s a vocal advocate for progressive causes, from LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive freedom to broader social justice issues — often facing off in civil, research-backed debates with figures like Charlie Kirk himself.

His Viral Statement
On September 10, 2025, just hours after Kirk was killed, Withers uploaded an emotional TikTok that has already surpassed 10 million views.

“I’m heartbroken, devastated,” he said. “I actually cried in front of 250,000 people while livestreaming.”

He condemned the attack in the strongest terms:

“Gun violence is always revolting, always unacceptable, always evil.”

Withers ended his video by sending condolences to Kirk’s family and to those traumatized by the tragedy at Utah Valley University.

Although the two often clashed ideologically, his response resonated across political divides, highlighting that respect and humanity can exist even in times of bitter disagreement.

The Assassination
Kirk was delivering one of his trademark “prove me wrong” debates at Utah Valley University when a gunman positioned on a rooftop fired a single shot, striking him in the carotid artery. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

Initially, two individuals were detained but later cleared of involvement. By Friday, authorities identified the suspected shooter as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah, according to the Associated Press.

Kirk, known for his strong pro-Trump stance and traditional values, regularly toured colleges nationwide with his American Comeback Tour. At UVU, he had previously faced opposition, with over 7,000 students signing a petition to block his appearance.

He is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, their three-year-old daughter, and 16-month-old son.
