Barry Gibb is a British musician, singer, songwriter, and producer best known as a member of the Bee Gees, one of the most successful musical groups in history. The Bee Gees delivered iconic hits like “How Deep Is Your Love,” “More Than A Woman,” and the disco anthem “Stayin’ Alive.”

Gibb is widely celebrated for his distinctive voice, especially his remarkable high-pitched falsetto. While his vocal ability is well-known, his achievements as a songwriter are equally impressive, with credits that rival those of legends like John Lennon and Paul McCartney, placing him among the most accomplished songwriters of all time.

With a career spanning over six decades, Gibb has earned significant recognition. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame with his brothers in 1994 and later into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. He was honored as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2002 and received a knighthood in 2018.

Despite his professional success, Gibb has faced profound personal loss. He is the last surviving member of the Bee Gees, as his brothers passed away over the years. Andy died at 30 in 1988 due to struggles with fame and substance use, Maurice passed in 2003 during surgery, and Robin succumbed to cancer in 2012. Gibb reflected that during those difficult times, his wife Linda Gray was his anchor. “My brothers had their demons, but my wife wouldn’t let me go down that path,” he said. “Any drugs I brought home were flushed away. She kept me grounded.”

Gibb also spoke of coping with the deaths of his parents, noting, “Life keeps moving forward, and you have to move with it.” Following his brothers’ deaths, Gibb pursued a solo music career.

Gibb’s relationship with Linda Gray has been a source of strength. Before marrying her, he was briefly married to Maureen Bates, a union that ended in July 1970. Just two months later, he married Gray on his 24th birthday, Sept. 1, 1970. The couple has been together ever since, building a life and raising five children and welcoming seven grandchildren. They even became U.S. citizens in 2009.

Their love story began when they met on the set of “Top of the Pops” during the week the Bee Gees’ song “Massachusetts” topped the charts. Gibb recalled that they felt an instant connection, saying, “We saw each other across the room, and something just clicked.”

Though their relationship has stood the test of time, there were moments when it could have been tested. Gibb mentioned that tennis star Evonne Goolagong once tried to set him up with Gray years before they became a couple. He also recalled a time when actor Steve McQueen attempted to charm Gray at a Los Angeles studio, even offering her a ride on his motorbike. “She’s a stunning woman and had just as many opportunities as I did,” Gibb said.

Despite the temptations and challenges, Barry Gibb and Linda Gray have remained devoted to each other, celebrating more than 50 years of marriage and enduring love.
